Accountant Job Description:
EARH and its district clinics are a regional hub for health care in Eastern Adams County, offering exceptional primary care in a modern hospital facility enhanced by advanced technology and linked to a regional network of healthcare partners. This position is responsible for supporting East Adams Rural Healthcare’s fiscal functions, including maintaining the general ledger, preparing/presenting financial reports internally and externally, and supporting the payroll and accounts payable processes. The Accountant will report directly to the CFO in a rural healthcare environment with opportunities for professional growth.
Accountant Responsibilities:
- Analyze and prepare a variety of complex records, reports, and other financial documents and statements, other technical financial reporting, and special reports and projects as assigned.
- Assist with month-end closing.
- Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
- Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
- Guide accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
- Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
- Provide technical support and advice on management
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and generally accepted accounting procedures
- Participate in financial standards setting and forecast process
- Provide input in the department’s goal-setting process
- Assist CFO in the preparation of financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Maintaining fixed assets and depreciation
Helpful Relevant Experience/Knowledge:
- Municipal government policies, procedures, and structure; applicable local, state, and federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
- Intermediate principles, practices, and procedures of governmental budgeting, accounting, and purchasing, including preparation, monitoring, transferring, and reporting (GAAP, GASB & BARS).
- Municipal financial research and analysis methods and techniques.
- Laws, rules, and regulations related to accounting in government operations.
- Accounting software user and administration skills (SAGE Intacct)
- EPIC EMR experience is preferred but not required
- Critical access hospital experience is preferred but not required
Accountant Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- High-level understanding and use of Office products, including Excel
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
- Intermediate understanding of accounting and reporting standards, gaining experience in researching as it relates to accounting issues
